TV Shows Wear Halloween Costumes Too

Most television shows do some kind of Halloween episode at least once. I think that these are the best ones because even if it is a serious show with deep plot lines the Halloween episodes can give them a chance to be sillier and makes some jokes. The shows that are already supposed to be funny are great because they really do stupid stuff. Most Halloween episodes have one thing in common, they all play "The Monster Mash". They probably all play this song because it is the best Halloween song ever. If a show does a Halloween episode every year than there are usually common elements.

Last night the new show Eastwick had their Halloween episode. In the town of Eastwick, where everyone tells stories about witches and the magical history of the town, their Halloween tradition is to fill coffins with bad memories and on Halloween night burn them all in a huge bonfire. So because of a bad new story one of the main characters, Joanna, gets kidnapped by the pastor and he puts her into one of the coffins and she almost burns to death, until one of the other main characters, Kat, uses her power to make it rain and put out the fire. This was a good Halloween episode because it had costumes, it was funny and had witches with magical powers.

Surprisingly Supernatural has only ever had one Halloween based episode, but it was great anyways. It all started when a witch made a guy start coughing up razor blades until he died, then a teenage girl was burned to death when bobbing for apples. Once Sam and Dean got to town they realized that the whole purpose of these killings was to fulfil an ancient spell to cause the rising of Samhain. Samhain was what they thought the origin of Halloween, he was a demon who could control all of the monsters and ghouls that people use for Halloween. To hide from him people would wear masks, pumpkins had faces drawn on them to turn him away and candy was left out to please him. All of these traditions were passed down into Halloween now. When he did rise he started to create zombies, ghosts, spirits, and other creatures that like to kill people. This episode was good because it was all about Halloween and how it began. I liked this episode even though it was bloodier than other Halloween episodes.

The show Las Vegas, which is cancelled, only did two Halloween episodes on in the first season and one in the fifth season. In the first season "The Night the Lights of Vegas Went Out" was when someone in their casino, the Montecito, was shot moments after the power went out in Las Vegas. Three of the main characters, Delinda and Nessa and Sam, where all on the casino floor trying to keep everyone settled until security could get out of the surveillance room and come down to ID the killer. So while everyone was cut off from each other around the hotel the girls on the floor were trying to find out who was the insane killer. When the lights cam back on the discovered that it was a women who shot her husband. In the fifth season "When Life Gives You Lemon Bars" Delinda hired a new pastry chef for one of the restaurants in the Montecito who was pregnant. She later found out that this women was insane. She thought that her opinion was the only one that matter and everyone in the world was only there to eat her pastries. This women was not as insane as the one from season one. At the end of the episode everyone went to the Halloween party dressed in their costumes and had a good time with the rest of the staff. These episodes where good because Las Vegas was supposed to be a funny show and they were able to play with it for Halloween, the first season they decided to do a serious episode where Sam started to lose her mind and a goofy episode in the fifth season.

Other classic Halloween specials are on every Halloween too. One of the best Halloween specials is Look its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Other good Halloween specials are the Caster the Friendly Ghost movies and shows. Halloween is not complete unless you watch one of these classic Halloween specials.

Halloween episodes are good because they allow the people in the show to have a holiday where they can be different from their characters. For Eastwick it was a time for homicidal pastors, for Supernatural it was a time for a super demon to bring all types of evil to an unsuspecting town and for Las Vegas it was a time for murdering wives or hormonal pastry chefs. Halloween is a time of the year when you can act and dress differently than who you are and it is the same for television shows, they can be whatever they want to be.
